The Bus Ride Revisited

Well, we said it may be awhile before we logged back on!! There has been not even the slightest glimpse of hope for internet where we’ve been. Maybe in 100 years or so.

Ok, so remember the bus we said was one of the worst experiences of our life that we would never get back on? For reasons beyond our control (but we could see it coming a mile away and could do nothing) we got on one of those for the trip down south. This ride is how I imagine hell to be. Seriously. If I was an al quaeda member, I would give up Osama Bin Laden and all future attack plans just to get off the bus. It was 14, yes 14 hours long. Once again we stopped 3000 times to pick up passengers at random non bus stops, sometimes waiting for an hour or two until the bus was full and then accidentally get it too full with people sitting in the aisles next to you on bags of rice. My knees (Roger) were touching the hard seat in front of me the whole time with zero room for it to recline but believe that people tried. In addition, the bus driver had two amplifiers, a subwoofer , an LCD screen, and dvd karaoke machine(status symbol) blaring at levels that shook your seat and NO ONE cared. In addition, the driver honked the horn at dogs, motorcycles, cars, trees, people, dust, ghosts, tumbleweeds, imaginary friends, etc at about a rate of 8 times per minute in double and triple bursts. They also rode the bus with the door open the whole way which was a good thing during the day (Because, guess what?? The AC didn’t work and it was 95 degrees!) but bad at night when we were freezing but NOBODY cared. Did we mention the smells? Roger almost made them stop the bus to let us off in BFE Laos but Seng talked some sense into him. All I can say is thank God for our IPODS. For those anesthesia nerds, it was so mentally taxing that we felt like the porcine pigs in the back of the truck getting MH just from the stress!
